Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s may receive Android P Developer Preview soon

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s may receive the latest Android OS update as soon as next week.

Until now, only the Google Pixel devices were the privileged ones to receive the Android P Developer Preview. However, Xiaomi appears to have revealed that its bezel-less Mi MIX 2s will be getting the Android P for testers as early as May 8, 2018. In its MIUI forum, the company reportedly announced that the Developer Preview of the latest Google Android version, with all its new features, will be arriving on the Mi MIX 2s.

Although the post has been taken down, folks at XDA Developers report that there indeed was an Android 9.0 firmware in the works for the Mi MIX 2s. Whether or not the company does roll out the Android P Developer Preview on the said date, it will make it the first non-Google device to receive the update.

Android P is the upcoming version of the most popular smartphone OS. There’s a lot of chatter around what will Google call it finally. It is expected to be rolled out sometime in the third quarter this year. As part of the ongoing testing of the software, it has been discovered that Android P will get redesigned navigation and multitasking UI. This has also to do with the notch support that the OS is confirmed to receive.

Other interesting new features that the Android P will bring to your device include retaining the last set volume level of your Bluetooth headphones, iPhone X-like built-in gesture controls, and support for indoor navigation as well. Irrespective of whether it will be called Android Pie or Popsicle, the next OS update is unlikely to be too radical.

Coming back to the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s; as there is no official confirmation on the rollout of the Android P Developer Preview to the device, if you do want to experience the OS update on the smartphone, you may choose to sideload it. It may be possible to install by extracting the images and flashing over the partitions manually. If you choose to do so manually, ensure you have your data backed up.
