The first tourist mission
to Mars is being planned for 2018 and a multi-millionaire tycoon Dennis Tito; who is also a lover of astronomy, is all set to privately fund his trip to Earth’s neighbor. The expedition is being set up by Dennis Tito’s non-profit organization Inspiration Mars Foundation. The tycoon is planning on announcing the news to the world next week.
Dennis Tito is the first tourist to have planned his trip to space and is now set to break his own record this new Mars expedition. The trip is expected to last approximately 500 days and will commence in January 2018. However, Tito will not land on the planet or even enter the planet’s orbit. Dennis Tito is planning a return trip just around Mars. The cost of the trip is yet to be disclosed. However, Dennis stated that the first tourist trip would cost lesser than expected.
The mission will be done on a SpaceX Dragon space-craft and will be launched on a Falcon Heavy Rocket. The space-craft reportedly can hold 2 persons and is a modern, barely furnished craft. The quarters will also be relatively smaller.
Dennis became the first tourist in space when he boarded the Soyuz TM-32 on a 8 day mission into space. The craft orbited the Earth 128 times during the mission and Dennis is said to have conducted experiments, which helped him in work, aboard the space-craft.
Dennis Tito received much flak from NASA for his touristy plans but that did not deter him before. He paid a whopping 20 million dollars for his trip to space and even gave extensive interviews post the tour. This time the stakes are much-higher and amounts we are sure, much larger! We wish this space enthusiast all the best in his voyage!
