Sonam Kapoor Beats Aamir Khan, Buys Rights For Mahabharata

Sonam Kapoor who is right now neck deep busy with her film Veere Di Wedding has a lot more interesting projects in her hands after that. We all know how the novel adaptations are always loved to be remade on the silver screen. Be it Hollywood’s Harry Potter, The Notebook or be it Bollywood’s Black Friday, 2 States, it has always been a different experience altogether to watch these words turn into visuals. Now, Sonam Kapoor is set to amaze the audience with two of such beautiful bestseller adaptations, Anuja Chauhan’s Battle For Bittora and Krishna Udayasankar’s Govinda. It can be noted that Aamir Khan is also in the talks to do a film on Mahabharata. However, Sonam Kapoor will be turning the opportunity into gold before Mr. Perfectionist.

Govinda is the first part of the three-part series ‘Aryavarta Chronicles’ which is modern retelling of Mahabharata. The three books in the series are Govinda, Kaurava, and Kurukshetra which collectively make the chronicle. Talking about both the adaptations, Sonam said, “Both (Battle For Bittora and Govinda) can be made into films, and I’m going to do it.” I don’t know which character I will essay, but it’s Indian mythology, which is spectacular and has a lot of potential.

There were reports that for Anuja Chauhan’s Battle For Bittora, the makers will cast Farhan Akhtar and Fawad Khan opposite Sonam Kapoor. Even though things did not go further then, Sonam is keen on taking the next step regarding this ambitious project. Also, Sonam has signed ‘The Zoya Factor’ which is also Anuja’s another bestseller. Meanwhile, Sonam Kapoor will be next seen in Veere Di Wedding that also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shikha Talsania, Swara Bhaskar and Sumeet Vyas in the lead, produced by her sister Rhea Kapoor.
