CHENNAI: Rajinikanth’s 67th birthday celebrations in the city on Tuesday turned a damp squib as he was away in Bengaluru. A few hundred fans of the superstar, from across the state, were disappointed when police turned them away from his Poes Garden residence.
In his most recent press meet, Rajinikanth had said “I will meet my fans after my birthday.” Rajinikanth had met fans from 15 districts in May. The second round of interaction with fans from the remaining 17 districts is pending. The actor’s elder brother Satyanarayana Rao Gaekwad had recently said Rajinikanth would meet fans in January. Many fans on Tuesday conducted special prayers at Rajinikanth’s Raghavendra marriage hall at Kodambakkam. Banners urging the actor to take the political plunge decorated Viswanathapuram Main Road outside the hall.
The second look poster of ‘Kaala’ was released. The star has completed shooting and is yet to announce his next film.
Fellow actor Kamal Haasan, shooting for ‘Vishwaroopam 2’ in the US, wished Rajinikanth. “All the best in everything you (Rajinikanth) want to do,” he tweeted. Political leaders, including DMK’s M K Stalin, TNCC chief S Thirunavukkarasar, MDMK chief Vaiko and BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan wished the actor.
The North American Thalaivar Rajinikanth Federation said NRIs in American firms would help bring technology and investment from the US to Tamil Nadu if the actor became chief minister. Writing from Dallas, convenor of the federation R Dinakar said, “Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu brought ideas and investment to AP through Telugu-speakers in US. We will help Rajinikanth achieve the same.”
