Porsche launches the 911 Targa in India

The Porsche 911 Targa, which infuses the classic design from the original 1965 model with the new-age sportiness of the seventh-gen 911, has now been introduced in the Indian market.

The 911 Targa features a new automated roof system for the convertible, which the company claims to be “the very latest in ground-breaking roof technology”. With the push of a button, the roof can be deployed or retracted in 90 seconds. Porsche also calls the whole process of using the automatic roof a real spectacle.

The other design features on the 911 Targa are the characteristic wide bar in lieu of the B-pillars and a wraparound rear window with no C-pillar, both which hark back to the classic models.

Apart from being a visual delight, the 911 Targa also provides predictable driving pleasure with two variants, both all-wheel drive. The 911 Targa 4 is powered by a 3.4-litre flat-6 engine, that produces 350 horses. With the added optional Sport Chrono package, this model accelerates from zero to 100 kmph in 4.8 seconds and claims a top speed of 282 kmph. The top variant, 911 Targa 4S, delivers 400 hp from a slightly bigger mill of 3.8 litres. The Targa 4S can sprint up to a top speed of 296 kmph and, and accelerates up to a 100 kmph in 4.4 seconds when equipped with the optional Sport Chrono package. The 911 Targa 4S can also be specified with the Carrera S Powerkit that boosts output by 30 hp.

Power from these flat-six engines is transmitted to the wheels by the now famous automatic seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK).  To add to the safey element, Porsche Traction Management comes as standard on the all-wheel drive system. To increase efficiency on these high-revving units, Porsche has outfitted the Targa with electrical system recuperation, map-controlled thermal management of the engine coolant and an auto stop/start function. The new 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S are available at all Porsche Centres in India. The 911 Targa is priced at ₹1,59 crore and the Targa 4S is priced at ₹1.78 crore. Prices are ex-showroom Delhi.
