OnePlus has surprised everyone as it announced the rollout of the Official Android Nougat 7.0 based OxygenOS for OnePlus 3 and 3T users before the end of 2016. The company announced the rollout on OnePlus Forums around 2 PM IST on 31 December 2016. The forum posts for OnePlus 3 and 3T came right after Carl Pei, Co-Founder of OnePlus announced the rollout on Twitter.
2) Android N stable OTA for the OP3 and the OP3T. Gradual rollout will begin later tonight.
— Carl Pei (@getpeid) December 31, 2016
This update came almost immediately after the launch of OxygenOS Open Beta 10 on 28th December 2016.
One interesting thing to note is that some features like extended screenshots have not made their way in the stable OxygenOS 4.0 and may likely come in a later build with January Google security bulletin patch. The company surprised almost everyone who is following OnePlus by following the deadlines that it set for itself after rolling out Android Nougat based OxygenOS Open Beta 8 before the end of November 2016.
The complete changelog is as follows:
Upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat
-New Notifications Design
-New Settings Menu Design
-Notification Direct Reply
-Custom DPI Support
Added Status Bar Icon Options
Improved Shelf Customization
This is surprising since almost all other relatively new companies are bad at providing timely updates to major Android software versions. Some of the companies promise and set deadlines but end up breaking their own deadlines at the end of the day. OnePlus is improving its track-record from the forgettable update history with OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X.
The company also launched the Open Beta program for OnePlus 3T users while launching the first Beta build for users to test drive. The company previously announced that OnePlus 2 users will also get Android Nougat update and the company is working on it. However, the team did not provide any fixed timeline for the upgrade.
Many members of our R&D are not taking any time off to celebrate New Year. But we all feel proud to finally deliver on our promises. — Carl Pei (@getpeid) December 31, 2016
OnePlus Open Beta is likely to continue for OnePlus 3 users like in the past. One interesting snippet Carl shared while announcing the rollout was the many members of OnePlus R&D team were not taking any time to celebrate New Year.
