At least 32 fire engines have rushed to the spot to bring the fire under control. Several shops have been gutted. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties. Fire Services Minister Javed Khan, who reached the spot of fire, said that investigation has been started to find out the cause of the fire.
According to reports, the fire broke out around 2:30 am in the morning. Hatibagan market is one of the oldest markets in the city. Earlier in 2011, more than 90 people were killed in a massive fire accident at Kolkata’s AMRI hospital.
