The trailer of filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s forthcoming venture Kaatru Veliyidai is out. Going by the trailer, the film bring backs several vivid memories from Ratnam’s previous films.
After some disastrous flops, ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam made a stunning comeback with his romantic drama OK Kanmani, which was highly successful at the box office. Although the Hindi version OK Janu tanked.
His Kaatru Veliyidai is one of the most expected releases of this year mainly because it’s a Mani Ratnam’s film. On Thursday, AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam went Facebook live to launch the trailer cut from the film. Going by Kaatru Veliyidai’s trailer, the film tells the love story between Karthi, an Air Force officer and Aditi Rao Hydari, a doctor. Also, Kaatru Veliyidai has traces of Mani Ratnam’s previous outings.
However, the film, on the contrary, doesn’t seem like an out-and-out romantic drama. Apart from AR Rahman’s soulful soundtrack, the highlight of the trailer is the cinematography by Ravi Varman. He’s damn good.
Known to play rustic roles in his films, Karthi’s makeover for Kaatru Veliyidai is a welcome change. Needless to say, Aditi Rao Hydari looks gorgeous in almost every frame.
Produced by Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies, the film also stars RJ Balaji, Shraddha Srinath and Delhi Ganesh in pivotal roles. Kaatru Veliyidai is expected to release on April 7.
