Indian pacer Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the World Cup with a knee injury after he failed to pass his fitness test on Saturday. Chennai Super Kings pacer Mohit Sharma is likely to replace him Down Under, according to media reports.
Ishant and teammates Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rohit Sharma were all expected to go through a two-part fitness test on Saturday. Interestingly, an Indian team official had told PTI last week that those who pass the test will also be examined in a warm-up match situation against Australia the next day, after which the team management would take a call.
Out of the four in question, Rohit is likely to gain full fitness but the condition of Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar is not known yet. In case Bhuvneshwar also fails the test, India would have to rely on a back-up in the form of Dhawal Kulkarni, who was also part of the Indian squad during the tri-series in Australia.
