At a time when people were getting excited about the rumoured dual-camera setup in iPhone 7, a new report suggests Apple has dropped the plan altogether. Now without any major changes on the back, the phone will most likely look very similar to iPhone 6S.
Earlier reports with leaked images had shown dual-camera on the back, but this report seems more reliable as it suggests a Foxconn employee leaked this crucial detail. A Weibo user Old Yao, who allegedly had a source inside Foxconn, said, “Foxconn internal staff said, dual camera iphone 7 was canceled because of immature technology, no wonder that Terry Gou is not optimistic about the future performance of iphone 7 friends.”
While Old Yao’s post looks credible, we are yet not sure what he means by “immature technology”, as many other rival companies have already delivered smartphones with dual-camera setup. However, some recent rumours did suggest that Sony is facing troubles in providing required number of camera sensors. This seems feasible as Sony did bear damage to its production lines due to recent earthquakes in Taiwan.
The famous Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, had earlier said that the iPhone 7 Plus, which will have 5.5-inch screen, will come with a dual-camera setup on the back. Later, MacRumours shared an image that shows dual cameras on what it claims to be the iPhone 7 Plus. The report said that the iPhone 7 will have regular camera.
Now with this new report it seems the only changes will be the repositioning of antenna lines, a missing audio jack, and a slimmer build. The leaked images show antenna lines sitting inline with the upper and lower edges of the phone. Instead of a 3.5mm audio jack, Apple may unveil a smart connector for earphones.
On the bright side, a report by MobiPicker, which supports its claim with a leaked photo, shows an all new home button in the iPhone 7. The home button doesn’t actually look like a button, but more of a touch sensitive surface, something similar to what we have seen on OnePlus phones.
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 7 at its annual event in October this year. If one goes by the reports and rumours, it seems the company is having trouble making up its mind. However, it is also possible that Apple may surprise all by coming out with something different altogether, refuting all the rumours.
