International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day– 2014 was observed in the city on Monday.
A rally was jointly organised by Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society, Tamil Nadu Network of Positive People, and World Vision. Around 50 persons gathered at Marina Beach, holding placards, and lit candles. They also released balloons in memory of those who had died of HIV-AIDS.
Speaking to the media, Rama
Pandian of TN Network of Positive People said there are over two lakh people infected with HIV in the State and around 25,000 in the city. “They should get treatment without any break due to non-availability of medicines,” he said.
Every year, International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day is observed on the third Sunday of May in memory of those who have died of the disease.
