NEW DELHI: Hyundai is all set to add more safety features in its popular hatchback – the Elite i20. According to sources, the top-spec Asta (O) trims will get six airbags.
Hyundai used to offer six airbags with the first-generation i20, but reduced the number to two with the second-generation model – the Elite i20. All-around disc brakes were also offered with the previous generation of the hatchback, but this feature was also discontinued in the Elite i20. The VW Polo, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz, and the Fiat Punto Evo (competitors of the Elite i20) – only get dual airbags. Presently, the Ford Figo is the only hatchback in Rs sub-10 lakh bracket to offer six airbags.
Besides the addition of six airbags, Hyundai will also reintroduce the erstwhile 1.4-litre petrol motor coupled to a four-speed automatic transmission (this was available with the first-gen model) in the Elite i20. The 1.4-litre petrol engine develops 100PS of power and 132Nm of torque.
The automatic version in the Elite i20 will only be offered with the Magna variant of the hatchback. Since it will not be available in the range-topping trims, the clutch-less version will miss out on features such as projector headlamps with daytime running LEDs, touchscreen infotainment system and 16-inch diamond cut alloys wheels, among others.
