In the annual diplomatic summit of the head of states or government of the BRICS member states (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) last year, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi had come up with a brilliant idea to bridge the gaps between the BRICS nations, with the show of each others’ art and culture. While his proposal was readily accepted, by the rest of the nations, this year will see the first even BRICS film festival taking place in India from September 2nd to 6th. Thie festival will take place ahead of the BRICS summit scheduled in October.
And for this festival, India has shortlisted four films as a representation. Director Rajamouli’s magnum opus, Baahubali – The Beginning is set to be screened at this annual fest along with other acclaimed films like Bajirao Mastani (Hindi), Thithi (Kannada) and Cinemawalla (Bengali).
Each country will send four films for being screened and the event will see a total of 20 films being featured. Jackie Chan’s Skiptrace will apparently be screened at the closing ceremony. A jury has been set up to judge the Best Film, Best Director and Best Actors as well. Here’s wishing more laurels to the country.
