The morning shows of Baahubali 2 have been cancelled.
While the entire nation is gearing up to watch the first day, first show of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2, the fans of the franchise in Chennai will have to wait a little longer to watch the magnum opus on 70mm.
The morning shows of Baahubali 2 were cancelled in Chennai due as the financial settlement between K Productions (distributors of Baahubali 2 in Tamil) and producers is yet to be settled.
Reportedly, the producers did not give clearance to the distributors to screen the film before 11am. And therefore, no screening of Baahubali 2 will take place before 11 in the morning in Chennai.
At 3am in the morning close to 100 people had gathered outside the Rohini theatre to get the answer for the biggest question of the year, “Why did Kattappa kill Bahubali?” But all of them were in for a shock when the first shows of the movie across the city was cancelled.
“I am here outside Rohini theatre from 3am and it was so irresponsible of the theatre owners to sell tickets if the show rights were not there. There was a lathi charge and two people were taken into custody,” said a fan outside the theatre. Around 4am when the police officials were trying to disperse the large crowd that was gathered outside Rohini theatre a lathi charge had begun, and two were taken into custody. But that did not stop the fans from coming again and again.
Most of them who booked the early morning shows turned up at the theatres only to be informed that they won’t be able to see a show, “Online booking was done by many of us, they could have sent a message about the cancellation. Such a waste of time and also I have not yet got the refund,” said Ganga who had booked for the 8am show.
At the Rohini theatre in Koyambedu, the theatre officials had put up a notice in Tamil that read, “Across the state of Tamil Nadu the release of the movie was not there and hence at 7:55, 8 and 8:15, the shows have been cancelled.”
The lack of a proper reason for why the shows were cancelled was also a cause of concern for many. “When we say the police and media presence we thought it was for security and did not imagine that the show could be cancelled. Why is it cancelled, anyway?” enquired Ananth who had come to the theatre with his family.
With the morning shows cancelled, the fans who had already bought the tickets will have to wait for another few days to see the larger-than-life experience unfold before them as tickets are sold out till May 4 in Tamil Nadu.
This piece of news has left Tamil fans disheartened as they will have to wait a little longer to know as to ‘Why Katappa killed Baahubali’.
Baahubali hits a new roadblock in TN:
The release of Baahubali 2 is put on a hold, as a sub-distributor had failed to return the money to a theatre right holder in Tamil Nadu. While the talks are on to release the film at the earliest today, theatre assistants believe that the issue would be resolved by 11 am. Tickets booked for the morning shows stand cancelled and will be refunded.
The theatrical right holder has agreed to screen Baahubali 2 for the day. But If the settlement is not done latest by tonight, the shows will be stopped from tomorrow. The screening of Baahubali 2 will start from 11 am.
