Apple launches repair program for iPhone 6 Plus ‘touch disease’ issue

Apple has launched a repair program for iPhone 6 Plus users, whose device has an issue with the display. The ‘touch disease’ as it is being called, can cause the iPhone 6 Plus display to start flickering or the multi-touch function stops working. While Apple has launched the repair program, it’s not doing this repair free of cost. The company says the issue happens because a device might have dropped too many times on a hard surface, which caused “further stress on the device.”

According to reports, iPhone 6 Plus users have complained of touchscreen not working, and usually a “thin grey line” appears at the top of the display. But it looks like Cupertino is blaming this on being careless with the device. Apple will be charging $149 for users whose iPhone 6 Plus is exhibiting these problems, provided it is in working order, and you’ve not cracked the display.

Apple also says it will reimburse customers who might have “paid for a service repair related to this issue either through Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.” For those who believe they got a repair related to this issue but have not been contacted by the company, they need to get in touch with Apple.

According to Apple, “the reimbursement amount will equal the difference between the price paid for the original service and the $149 service price.”

Apple says it will examine the iPhone 6 Plus for before the service in order to determine if the device is eligible for this program. The smartphone needs to be in a working condition. Apple is also telling customers to back up their data to iTunes or iCloud before giving the device for service. Apple will also limit repair to the original country of purchase.

This is a worldwide program, so iPhone 6 Plus India users can also go to the authorised Apple Service Centre if they’ve been facing this issue. Apple says it will cover “iPhone 6 Plus devices for 5 years after the first retail sale of the unit.”
