An FIR lodged against the makers and participants of the controversial AIB Roast included actress Deepika Padukone’s name in the list. Pertaining which the police had taken action to arrest Deepika. However, in a recent petition filed by her lawyer, Deepika has now been granted protection from arrest till March 16.
Actress Deepika Padukone’s lawyer Ameet Nayak had argued before the court that the actress was merely present in the audience and had no role in the making of the show, and thus should be excluded from the said FIRs lodged against her. Deepika Padukone had submitted two petitions to refrain any police action taken against in relation to the FIRs lodged in Pune and Mumbai Tardeo police stations.
Bombay High Court judges Ranjit More and Anuja Prabhudessai passed the order on March 2 providing Deepika Padukone protection from police arrest till March 16 till the time her petition will be brought forward for hearing. The court has clubbed the two petitions filed by Deepika and asked the state government to make a decision regarding the quashing of the same. Earlier similar orders were passed protecting Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh from police arrest.
Amongst the accused are NSCI president Jayantilal Shah, secretary-general Ravinder Aggarwal, AIB Roast organisers, film personalitiesKaran Johar, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Rohan Joshi, Tanmay Bhatt, Gursimran Khamba, Ashish Shakya, Aditi Mittal, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, flim critic Rajeev Masand amongst other participators. Some of the charges against AIB Roast include criminal conspiracy, speaking vulgar, obscene and pornographic words publicly before a women audience, and circulation of obscene, pornographic content on the Internet.
Actress Deepika Padukone is currently busy shooting her upcoming filmsTamasha and Bajirao Mastani slated to release this year-end. The 29-year-old actress recently finished shooting for her film Piku starring Amitabh Bachchan.
